Understanding what matters. Finding what helps

Services

Counselling

A space to talk, reflect and work through what’s happening.

Counselling can help when you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, adjusting to change, or wanting to better understand yourself and the patterns in your life. Sessions are collaborative and practical, drawing on evidence-based approaches while being tailored to you.

Social Work

Practical support when life gets complicated.

Social work can help make sense of complex situations, navigate services and systems, identify options and work towards the things that matter to you. Support may include advocacy, problem-solving, capacity building and connecting with the right services and supports.

Positive Behaviour Support

Understanding behaviour in context.

Behaviour is communication, and meaningful change starts with understanding what is happening and why. Positive Behaviour Support looks beyond the behaviour itself to understand the person, their environment, needs and circumstances, and develops practical strategies to improve quality of life and reduce the need for restrictive practices.

Meet Fea

Meet Fea

I’m Fea, a social worker, counsellor and behaviour support practitioner with more than 17 years’ experience supporting people through change, uncertainty and some of life’s more complicated moments.

My approach is warm, curious and practical. I’m interested in understanding what’s happening for you, what matters to you, and what might genuinely help, rather than assuming there’s one “right” way to do things. Sometimes that means making sense of patterns or experiences; sometimes it means developing practical strategies; and sometimes you simply need somewhere you can talk openly and be heard.

My background includes many years in hospital social work, alongside experience in counselling and positive behaviour support. I draw from evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT and DBT, while adapting the work to the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt to the therapy.

I work primarily with adults and welcome people with disability and neurodivergent clients. Sessions can be provided via telehealth or in the community across Ipswich and surrounding areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

The call is a brief, no-obligation conversation to see whether I might be a good fit for you. It’s also an opportunity for me to learn a little about what you’re looking for, whether my services are likely to meet your needs, and what the next steps might be.

Yes. The Hummingbird Room provides counselling, social work and Positive Behaviour Support to NDIS participants. The funding arrangements available depend on the service being provided.

Yes. Counselling and social work are available to both self-managed and plan-managed participants.

Yes. Positive Behaviour Support can be provided to NDIA-managed participants through my contracting arrangements with registered NDIS providers.

No. Counselling is also available privately, so you don’t need to be an NDIS participant to work with me.

Over the years, I’ve found that many people prefer to receive support in their own home or at a community location where they feel comfortable. For this reason, I offer face-to-face services across the Springfield and Ipswich regions, as well as telehealth. For community-based appointments, we’ll choose a location that provides enough privacy and quiet for us to talk comfortably.

Despite the name, The Hummingbird Room isn’t currently a physical clinic! I offer telehealth appointments, as well as community and home-based appointments on a case-by-case basis.

I accept self-referrals, as well as referrals from support coordinators and other professionals, with the consent of the person being referred.

That's okay. Get in touch and we can talk briefly about what you're looking for and whether counselling, social work or another service may be the best fit. If I'm not the right person to help, I'll let you know.

Private counselling is $160 per 50-minute session. NDIS-funded counselling, social work and Positive Behaviour Support are charged in line with the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.

Any additional fees, such as travel or non-face-to-face supports where applicable, will be discussed with you before services commence.
